They are always big sellers, and they rarely skimp on quality. We do appreciate the quality customer service the Dyna-Glo grills provides, it is by far one of the best grill makers when it comes to customer service and customer satisfaction.

Dyna-Glo Grills

Features To Consider

If you are shopping for a new grill, you know just how many options there are. We are confident that Dyna-Glo is one of the grill lines that you should put at the top of your list. They have long-lasting affordable options for any chef.

However, finding the right grill in the Dyna-Glo line will require a bit of time, on your part. We’ve provided this list of features that you should consider when you’re shopping for your Dyna-Glo grill:

Strengths

  • Full featured line of grills
  • Attractive design and build quality
  • Efficient burners
  • Budget to Mid-range pricing
  • Reliable with good warranty

Weaknesses

  • Some prone to rusting
  • Limited parts availability
  • Uneven heating issues
  • Covers fit poorly

Fuel type

You’ve got three options when it comes to fuel for your grill: propane, natural gas and charcoal. Each has its pros and cons, but which you select really has to do with personal preference. It is important to note that if you are looking for a grill to tie into your home’s natural gas, Dyna-Glo is not your brand. Dyna-Glo does however offer both propane and charcoal options.

Gas – When we’re talking gas in respect to Dyna-Glo grills, we’re talking propane gas. Propane grills are by far the easiest to use, and are a great way for the beginner to get comfortable cooking on a grill. In most cases, starting a gas grill requires you to turn on the gas, and push a button.

There’s little that can go wrong, when you are starting the grill, and once it’s started, adjusting temperature is simple. You will however pay more for gas grills than charcoal grills, but that isn’t a surprise, considering that they have more parts and rely on added technology for their operation.

Charcoal – Charcoal grills are much simpler in design, but they really do have a much more complicated process. However, if you are looking for a grill that is a bit more affordable, or if you don’t want the continued cost of propane tanks, a charcoal grill is your answer. Their simplified design makes them more budget friendly, and buying charcoal is also more affordable than propane gas. Experienced grillers will tell you that charcoal creates a better taste, and once you learn how to work the coals, charcoal grills heat more efficiently and evenly. The downfall with charcoal, it isn’t nearly as simple to use. What you make up for in affordability, you lose in simplicity.

Size

When you are shopping for grills, you need to remember that the size of the grill isn’t going to matter as much as other features. However, if you have a tiny space, or are looking for a grill to travel with, grill size will matter. You won’t see much of a difference in how a grill performs in relation to size, so the only reason you need to consider size for storage.

Of course, the size of the grill will also relate to the available cooking area, so if you need a lot of cooking space, you’ll probably want to have a larger grill. If you’re only cooking for yourself, or a couple of people, a smaller grill will work fine. Dyna-Glo has a variety of grills that range in size from compact charcoal grills to full-size gas grills.

Cooking capacity

Of course, once you have the fuel type down, you’ll want to figure out how much you want to cook. If you want to entertain a crowd, a small cooking area is going to be a huge inconvenience. On the flip side, if you’re only cooking for you, a huge grill is going to be way too much. Grill size is directly related to price. So if you’re on a budget you may want to consider your options in regards to size. A larger, charcoal grill may be a bigger bang for your buck.

Secondary cooking space

Dyna-Glo does include secondary cooking spaces on many of their grills. These can be as simple as warming racks in the main cooking area that allow you to cook foods like potatoes that don’t need as much heat, or just keep your food warm until you’re ready to serve. Dyna-Glo grills have up to 200 square inches of secondary cooking space.

Secondary cooking space can also refer to added burners or separate warming trays that give you additional flexibility when it comes to cooking. We’ll cover some of these other burner options in more depth later in this section.

Grates

Dyna-Glo grills come standard with porcelain-coated, cast iron grates. These are really the best type of cooking grates you can buy, because they are able to handle higher temperatures, and provide a more non-stick option than other grate types. These grates are also easy to clean, and stand up longer to the elements.

Burners

It is always a handy feature to have burners that are individually controlled. Most Dyna-Glo gas grills have this option, and it really provides you the most flexibility for cooking. You can create different temperature zones that will allow you to cook steak in one area, and vegetables in the other. Even smaller Dyna-Glo grills feature two, individually operated burners, for added flexibility.

If you want more features and more flexibility, consider a grill with burners that are separate from the main cooking area. These might include a searing burner or a burner for cooking sauces, steaming vegetables or warming rolls. These features make your grill more versatile and give you more freedom to move away from your kitchen.

Additional Features

If you’ve got the money to spend, you might want to look for a Dyna-Glo grill with some added features. One of our favorite features, though not the most exciting, is a built-in thermometer. When it comes to gas grills a thermometer can make the difference between burnt or undercooked food and a perfectly cooked meal without drying out.

Not an essential, especially if your Dyna-Glo grill has a storage cabinet, is tool hooks. These features keep your grilling tools clean and close at hand while you’re cooking. We also like bottle openers on our gas grills, because there is nothing that says summer entertaining like enjoying a cold beverage while you grill.

If you’re selecting a charcoal grill, you’ll probably want to look for an easy to clean ash bin. Some grills have this, some don’t, but it really is an added feature that is more like a necessity, in our mind.

Shelves and Storage

Most of the stand-alone grills in the Dyna-Glo line sit on a portable cart that has at least one shelf and a storage cabinet. This is handy for storing tools, and having a convenient place to set bowls and plates.

Warranty

Dyna-Glo comes with a great reputation, and their grills all have good warranties that help take the sting out of repairs when things break. Do however, read the warranty information that is included with your grill, so that you know exactly what is covered under the warranty and how you make warranty claims with Dyna-Glo.

It is important to remember that reputation does matter, so before you buy, make sure the product you select has a positive customer rating, so you don’t get burned by a poor quality product.

DGSS287CB-D

Why you’ll love this:

Our second grill is the portable charcoal grill from Dyna-Glo. This tiny little grill has all of the same features you expect on the full-size Dyna-Glo grills, just in a smaller, portable package.

The body of the grill is made from heavy gauge stainless steel, so it is more than capable of traveling. It has sturdy legs that sit the grill well above the table top, so you don’t have to worry about overheating your table. T

he fire box on this grill slides out for easy filling and easy cleaning. The spring handles are cool to the touch, even with extra hot coals, so you don’t have to worry about burning your hands.

There is 287 square inches of cooking space on this grill, which is more than enough for camping or tailgating. The grill grates are porcelain enameled stainless steel so they can more than handle high temperatures, but still be easy to clean.

We do wish that the legs folded on this grill, so that it was a bit more compact for traveling, but that is really the extent of our complaints about this portable gas grill.

Speaking of food, with 708 square inches of cooking space, you’ll be able to cook plenty of food for your friends and family with this grill. The grill grates are heavy gauge stainless steel, so they are easy to clean and are able to stand up to the elements, with minimal rusting.

Frankly, setting your propane tank is one of the most challenging parts of using a gas grill, and this tray takes the work out of that chore. We also love the heavy-duty, thick handles on the hood and doors. They are easy for any size hand to use, and they stay cool while you’re cooking so you don’t have to worry about burns.
